“Lessons Learned” Reflection

I learned a lot about this class from reading these reflections. These posts made me excited about this opportunity to develop my skills while learning how design affects my everyday life. Here are some of my major takeaways:

  1. 15 weeks goes by fast. I’m a big procrastinator. I’ve learned that procrastination doesn’t bode well in this class, so I’m going to make sure I stay on track this semester because I want my final prototype to be the strongest it can be. This also means seeking out help earlier rather than later.
  2. Print it out. A newspaper feels very different than a magazine or a book. Laura’s post taught me that printing out drafts along the way can help you make a stronger final product because user-testing is super important. Something that solves a problem on a screen doesn’t always translate to the same solution in print.
  3. Dive in. This class is probably the only opportunity I’ll have to create a prototype publication from scratch in an academic setting. I’m excited to try new things and make a ton of mistakes because that’s the only way I’m going to learn.
