Today’s Zaman has at least one photo on each page and more often than not they are single portraits, or environmental portraits from the event. The paper is a much more serious leaning paper and the photos reflect that; they are rectangular with specific cropping to show just the event or person. The subjects are normally in action, such as talking, etc. and the pictures are more often than not medium shots. The photos are all in color. Type is rarely placed on images unless it is in the entertainment or sports section. Often in the entertainment and sports section the photo will be cut out and placed in a story. While most of the photos used for story are very dull and uninteresting in my opinion they do try and have a lifestyle photo story in almost every issue, and will also do a single photo story that have more interesting subjects in them. Also the A1 always has some kind of photo illustration at the top to lead into the features/ sports/ or entertainment section.
Personally I dislike most of the photo choices used by Today’s Zaman, I don’t think that you have to have a “talking head” photo with every story and there are much more interesting ways to visually communicate and connect with your words.
