Publico Website

Publico’s website, publico.pt, seems pretty basic, but this works. The simplicity makes it easy to navigate through. It seems to be on a 4 column grid. But the two columns on the left side are combined with a dominant image or video at the top. Red remains as a dominant color on the website.

The website also uses pull quotes which is something I don’t see very often on the web. In comparison to the printed product, I think that the website uses space evenly for size.

Overall, I would have liked to see a slider. I think this would have helped in terms of hierarchy. Readers could go straight to the slider for top news and then navigate around. Although this is not the intentions od the websites’s editorial or design staff, I think the advertisements work well. When you scroll over the ads, they expand in size. I think this is useful because it draws attention to itself without interrupting the reader.
