I am most impressed by the thought of the relationship between news design and storytelling: “The way a story is presented impacts how it is read.” I didn’t realize that new designers are also journalists in a publication until this class. I always believe that graphic design can convey information independently, such as on forming the basic atmosphere at the first glance before readers explore further into the written messages, but I thought little about how to use typography to lead readers’ eyes and minds. Moreover, every element put on the page should be there for certain purpose. We shouldn’t waste any space or reader’s time on things that make no sense for the story. Design is also about redesign, and it’s important to do research, sketch, and collect feedback. I believe that I’m going to learn a lot from this class in the coming three months.
